Easter has come and gone. I love that we just spent our third Easter here. Holidays are always different here, but different in a good way. Easter is just about Jesus. Thats it. No bunnies. No pastel colored eggs. No chocolate. I really don't know how I am going to explain the Easter bunny to Silas when he is old enough to understand, or Santa for that matter!
But as always I planned activities with the kiddos for Sunday. However, Thursday night I was told that I needed to have something ready for the kids for Friday. So I grabbed all my books on the Easter story, and printed out some coloring sheets.
We (my friend Jennifer and Leah went with me along with two girls from Global Care) got to the church thinking that everyone was going to be there for a Good Friday service, but we only found children! It made my heart swell a little see all the kids there ready for whatever I was going to do with them. I really love working with them. It has been a little over a year that I have been teaching them and it is really great to see them growing and gaining confidence in knowing their Bible. I have even had some of the teachers tell me that the students that they have in class that go to my children's church class do better on their Religious Education test than those who do not attend. It is a slow process though. These kids are very much used to learning a certain way and I certainly do it different from school. But we are figuring it out! It also reconfirms to me that in order to really make a difference, I need to be willing to give of my time and really pour into these children. It may even call for years of my life. And that is something that I am 100% ok with. This is my chance to join in where God is working and maybe impact a generation.
Here are some pictures from my time with the kids on Friday.
